Brundibar – A Children’s Opera, Commemorating Kristallnacht

brundibar-wx1jjrk4.kmmAs we near the 80th anniversary of this significant event, the Holocaust Center, in collaboration with Opera Orlando and Florida Symphony Youth Orchestras, is presenting a performance of Brundibar. Brundibar is a children's opera composed by Hans Krasa that tells the story of two children who must outwit the town bully in order to buy milk for their sick mother. Throughout this production, we are reminded of the power of hope and the strength of teamwork. Completed in 1938, this opera was performed nearly sixty times in the Theresienstadt concentration camp where the defeat of the bully Brundibar eventually grew to represent Hitler's demise.
