Dr. Jeannine Mongeon earned music education degrees from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (BM), University of Rochester Eastman School of Music (MM), and the University of Miami (PhD). Her dissertation involved the use of stretching and strengthening techniques and its effects on violin and viola players’ intonation and facility. She has worked as a professional violinist and violist in symphonies in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Rochester New York, Annandale, New Jersey, Worcester, Massachusetts and Miami and Miami Beach, Florida. Currently, she performs regularly with the Florida Lakes Symphony. She was a jazz violinist in the 654 Jazz Trio of Rochester, NY. She has also worked as an active freelancing violinist and violist. Dr. Mongeon has been an Orchestra Director and music educator since 1990 in various public and private schools: Palisades School District (PA), Clifton Schools (NJ), Caldwell-West Caldwell Schools (NJ), Rush-Henrietta Schools (NY), Shrewsbury Schools (MA), Florida Bible Christian School (FL), Cranford Schools (NJ), L’école des Ursulines (Québec City, Canada) and Montverde Academy (FL).
As an educator, she has directed orchestras of all levels, taught private violin, viola, cello and double bass lessons, taught courses in Music Appreciation, Music Theory, Dictation, Aural Skills, and Composition, coached Chamber Music and Folk music ensembles, and often is the piano accompanist for her students. She has been the Music Director for several musical theater productions. Additionally, she has taught collegiate music education classes at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.
She holds certification in Suzuki Pedagogy and National Board Teacher Certification in Music Early/Middle Childhood. Dr. Mongeon has been an adjudicator: Florida Music Performance Assessment, Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, Music Teachers National Concerto Competitions, National Association of Music Clubs Federation Festival. She has been a guest clinician: American String Teachers Association, New Jersey Music Educators Association, University of Miami Music Education Day. She has been a Broward All-County guest conductor. She has successfully prepared her Orchestras to perform at New York State School Music Association, Florida Music Educators Association and National Orchestra Festival adjudications. Over all the years of her teaching career, she has maintained a private studio of students of a wide range of ages and abilities, as well as taught students through various community music schools. She has also enjoyed spending her summers teaching at summer music camps and Suzuki Institutes, such as Camp Encore/Coda in Maine, Young Musicians Camp at the University of Miami and FSYO’s Stringmania. She was the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra Overture Conductor from 2019-2021. She is currently a member of the Orlando Music Club and the National Association of Music Clubs.
